Babak, an Iranian student in Greece, doesn't show up to welcome his visiting parents at the Athens airport. Pari and her older husband, both devout Muslims abroad for the first time, are ill-prepared to search for their son in an intimidating and alien environment. All their attempts to find a clue that might lead them to him prove to be in vain and they soon reach a dead end. But Pari can't give up looking for him, even when returning to Iran seems like her only choice. Following the steps of her rebellious son in the darkest corners of the city, she will exhaust her inner strength to achieve more than a mother's search for her missing son.

This film is mainly based on various true incidents relating to tribles, their culture and their lifestyle. The main characters are Dr. Kanna (Sharad Kapoor), his fiancée Rupi (Ms. Nandita Das), Rajayya (Makrand Deshpande) as Naxalite Commander, Inspector Despande (Sayaji Shinde), Ghisu (Vijay Raj) and Dattu (Rajpal Yadav). Also, introducing Hemangini as Mainee. Dr. Kanna & Rupi are childhood lovers and made for each other. Kanna is intelligent and presently doing final year MBBS in Nagpur. Everybody is proud of him. The first trible Indian to achieve such status. Rupi is typical aggressive trible girl, wildcat like manners and irrespective of free trible culture where sex before marriage is treated as part of education, nobody proposes to her knowing her love and devotion to Kanna. Kannas brother Ghisu is one aggressive and hot-tempered with who is illiterate and is slowly getting attracted towards Naxalites. Kanna does not like this.

Raja Kumar Bahadur alias Gyan Shankar Rai has been a total abstainer all his life, never touching a drop of alcohol, and keeping away from women and all known vices all his life. Then one day he sees a young woman named Saudamani, and instantly falls in love with her. He finds out about her background, and virtually buys her, and brings her to his palatial home. This is when he takes to drinking, and wooing her, and renaming her Madhuri, but refrains from marrying her. Years later, he sees another beautiful woman, about half his age, named Sumita, meets with her parents, pays off their debts, and marries her in the bargain. He brings Sumita home, but makes it clear that Madhuri's word is law here. Then Kumar finds out that Sumita had a childhood sweetheart in Shekhar, who has now returned from abroad. Kumar meets with Shekhar and finds out that both still have feelings for each other.
